EXHIBITING ARTISTS

CHITZ RAMIREZ

CHITZ RAMIREZ [PH]

Wanted: Tubero is a visual drawing of otherwise invisible lines that run through the sometimes harmonic, sometimes dissonant elements that make up a whole. One such charged plane or contested whole is the artworld which lives on the perpetuation of a chain of associations that keep symbols alive through their regurgitation and constant remaking. This underlying connective structures of thought and meaning make up art's critical lifelines that nonetheless get reworked and shift over time and place.

In affirming his faith in art's capacity to enable flex and/or an altered pace, Ramirez challenges the force-fitting that has become analogous of how aberrant artists and their art get squeezed into digestible, skeletal bits. Thus, this interactive installation attempts at an indexical engagement, where visitors are encouraged to take any of the strewn about fittings (elbows, tees, reducers, bushings, and so on) which they can use as is or cut to size, then add on to any open end to extend a length, or effect a switch or a break in the flow. Just as children used to play shooting stars and eventually Tetris, Wanted: Tubero allows the willing participant to create individuated paths and counterflows in the course of which it is hoped, that the ambient chatter, swishes, and hum that reverberate through these pipes make a case for keeping such energies churning rather than being repressively shut off.
